Day-care during daytime, residence at night: Pixel House

Day-care during daytime, residence at night: Pixel House

Designed by Slade Architecture, the Pixel House display an innovative way of constructing residential projects. Inhabited by a young couple and their two children, the house is the last in a row of houses, making it the perfect candidate for the inhabitants’ intention of transforming it into a day care for neighbourhood children.

The main volume borrows line from both the neighbouring houses and the surrounding landscape. Round corners compete with angled ones to give the idea of a strong connection between the house and its environment. Simple orthogonal bricks lay on top of each other to create a digitalized facade. The choice of materials fabricates an interesting display of bold architectural elements. A large, framed window pushes out of the house’s curved wall to explore the surrounding views. Hills surrounding the neighbourhood found a visual connection to the Pixel House in the shape of  the curvaceous yet modern lines.

Using the house as both a day care and a residential building, the inhabitants explore a well-defined living style and share the exciting architecture with neighbouring kids. It might serve as inspiration for an architect someday … one that goes to the Pixel House day care today.
